The UK’s longest-running index of the 100 most disruptive and innovative small businesses has been announced, with revolutionary vehicle admin app Caura topping the list.

Joining the likes of Monzo and Deliveroo in being identified by the Startups 100, 2023 list topper Caura has ambitious plans to be the go-to app for every driver by bringing together MOT payments, tax, insurance and road tariffs in one place.

Founded by Dr Sai Lakshmi, the app already claims to have facilitated £4 million worth of transactions since launch in 2019.

For the 15th year, Startups.co.uk has identified which privately owned UK businesses launched in the last five years are making waves. A weighted score is given to every business entrant based on five key areas of analysis: finance, external validation, size of opportunity, innovation and strength of concept.

The judges include Sahar Hashemi OBE, Alison Loveday, Deann Evans, Christopher Kenna, Ian Wallis, Rachel McClelland, Andrea Pattico and Eloise Skinner.

“The 2023 Startups 100 shows businesses don’t have to sacrifice profits to have purpose,” said Richard Parris, editor of Startups.co.uk. “Against a backdrop of gloomy global events we can see UK entrepreneurs creating new ventures that not only create jobs but also make a real difference to the world around them – I think this is the inspiration we all need to take into the year ahead.”
