New markets

A British startup has won a $1 million grand prize to join a business accelerator in New York.

Archangel Imaging, based in Didcot near Oxford, specialises in advanced artificial intelligence and GNSS-denied navigation.

Its triumphant pitch to judges and an audience in downtown Syracuse, NY, will see it embark on the 12-month GENIUS NY programme for uncrewed aircraft systems, Internet of Things and robotics industries.

The programme, supported by Empire State Development and CenterState CEO, offers the cohort incubator space, business development support, mentoring and product development assistance.

Since 2017, GENIUS NY has invested $15m in 26 companies from around the world looking to expand into central New York.

“Archangel Imaging has been working hard to make machines smart enough to be team-mates you can trust to do their part, rather than tools you need to constantly manage,” said Dan Sola, CEO of Archangel Imaging.

“Xnaut GENIE, our revolutionary AI co-pilot, helps overcome a fundamental vulnerability with GPS and enables uncrewed systems to operate with resilience and competence alongside people.

“Being selected as the GENIUS NY 2022 Grand Prize winner is an incredible achievement and recognition for the team. We have made great friends and are proud to be a part of the community in our new home in central New York.

“The prize enables us to create further high value jobs and fuel long-term local partnerships.”
