VivaCity, a transport technology scaleup transforming cities into smarter and more efficient spaces, is launching in new markets following 140% growth in its workforce this year.
The London firm, which starred on our sister publication BusinessCloud’s TransportTech 50 ranking, has also revealed e-scooter classification for ‘near-miss’ accident detection via its AI-powered sensors.
VivaCity provides detailed, anonymous insights on road usage and behaviours. The new projects are in Utrecht and Nijmegen in the Netherlands; Holbæk, Gladsaxe, Albertslund and Roskilde kommunes in Denmark; and Port Phillip in Australia.
Ben Rippingale has joined the team as business development manager for Australia and New Zealand.
With over 90 clients, VivaCity has expanded its senior team to support its growth, with the appointment of Rob Stait, chief revenue officer and Henry Hunter, finance director. Lindsey Noakes also joins the team as head of people, while Megan O’Connor has been appointed as head of strategic partnerships, Paul Elton as head of delivery and Jakub Maly as head of security.
To accommodate its growing team, VivaCity has moved into new offices in Old Street. The move coincides with the company rebranding its name, logo and website, led by agency Brand Cooke.
“Since starting in 2016 with an invention to dramatically improve our understanding of how roads are used, we’ve established ourselves as market leaders,” said Stait.
“We have a big vision to keep transforming traffic through AI and to deliver smart, sustainable cities. Our new look and feel better translates our vision and represents more of who we are and why we keep innovating, growing and disrupting.”
In light of VivaCity’s growth, CEO, Mark Nicholson has joined Interchange’s advisory board, where he will collaborate with other industry figures to shape the future of transport infrastructure.
Dudley Council and Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) are also working with VivaCity to address congestion issues across the borough, as part of a wider regeneration project. As part of VivaCity’s Early Adopter Programme, its Smart Junctions product will use multimodal data to reduce journey times and congestion based on real-time demand.
